Zomato shuts down Zomato Legends two years after launch

Zomato, the food delivery giant company and a competitor to the soon-to-be-public Swiggy, has decided to shut down its 'Zomato Legends' service just two years after it started.

Zomato Legends was introduced in August 2022 to offer a unique food delivery experience where people could order popular dishes from restaurants in different cities. For example, someone in Delhi could order a famous Biryani from Hyderabad and have it delivered right to their door. The service aimed to let people enjoy top-notch food from various cities without leaving their homes.

However, the service didn’t work out as planned. CEO Deepinder Goyal explained on X (formerly Twitter) that despite two years of effort, they couldn’t find a good market fit for Zomato Legends. This means the company struggled to make the service popular or profitable.

In April 2023, Zomato quietly stopped the service, but then they gave it another try by relaunching it in July 2023. Despite these efforts, the service still didn’t catch on, leading to the decision to shut it down for good.

In a brief update on X, Goyal said, “After two years of trying and not finding a product market fit, we have decided to shut down the service with immediate effect.” This closure marks the end of Zomato Legends and reflects the company's decision to focus on other areas.
