India is a land rich with traditional art and crafts, each piece telling a story and reflecting our cultural heritage. However, as plastic toys dominate the market, the true charm and emotion of traditional toys are fading away. Priyanka Chugh, a solo entrepreneur, is working to preserve this essence through her project, Ek Taara Toys, which offers unique, handmade toys that capture the magic of childhood.
The Inspiration Behind Ek Taara Toys
Priyanka Chugh’s journey began after graduating from NIFT, where she worked with various brands and designers. Despite her success, she felt a strong desire to learn more. This led her to pursue a part-time MBA, and later, she won the J N Tata Scholarship, which allowed her to study brand management at Polimoda in Italy.
In 2014-15, Priyanka launched a textile brand, but the pandemic disrupted her business. Determined to start anew, she embraced crochet techniques and, with just Rs 10,000 and a passion for aesthetics, launched Ek Taara Toys. Her goal was to create 100% handmade, sustainable toys that children could cherish for generations.
The Growth of Ek Taara Toys
Within five days of launching, Priyanka received her first order through Instagram, which marked the start of her business’s organic growth. Her toys are crafted using the Amigurumi technique, a traditional Japanese crochet method. Ek Taara Toys not only preserves the essence of childhood but also celebrates each child’s individuality.
Creating Joy Through Art and Innovation
The mission of Ek Taara Toys is to create joy through art and innovation. Priyanka’s team introduces new designs monthly, ensuring each piece is unique. With over 1000 satisfied customers, the brand honors traditional crafts while supporting artisans.
Priyanka’s joy comes from seeing the delight her creations bring. Her "never to fit in" attitude drives her creativity and makes her work stand out. She finds fulfillment in the smiles and excitement of her customers, making her hard work truly worthwhile.
