As per the new guidelines, several quotas for discretionary admissions and those held by MPs have been removed. Children who lost their parents due to Covid-19 would not have to pay fees for their education in KV. According to the official data, more than 4,000 children have been registered in this scheme. Children of Kashmiri migrants and children whose parents have been lost to Covid-19 (under the PM CARES for Children Scheme) will have access to get admissions in 1,248 Kendriya Vidyalayas in part of the new proposals that have been published by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS).
As the guidelines have changed,15 children of research and analysis wing staff and 50 central police organizations can take admissions. MP Rajya Sabha and senior BJP official Sushil Kumar Modi stated that the quota seats of 7,880 MPs would be removed, as per the new changes. In a democratic country, there should be no discrimination. If there is no transparency, it will lead to corruption,”. The quota was no longer based primarily on merit or reserve. As a result, nearly 8,000 seats were blocked. Some MPs had asked for an increase in the quota,” Modi added. However, Congress Leader and MP Karti Chidambaram tweeted: "It's outrageous to remove some less discretionary intervention tools that an MP had." Each deputy could bring admissions of 10 children.
A KVS official said on condition of anonymity that the review was already done because the quotas were disturbing the already existing students' strengths as per the classes. “It turned out that in one classroom there were 70 students. This has affected the focus and quality of education and disrupted the student-teacher ratio. There are 14,35,562 KV students, in addition to the MP quota, other quotas were removed, including those for employees of the Ministry of Education, structured children and grandchildren of MPs, and retired KV staff.
The 100 seats of the Ministry of education, a Few seats of retired KV officials, the MP quota, Sponsoring agencies, Vidyalaya chairman’s seats, and Land sponsoring authorities seats have been removed as per the new rules and instead of Kashmir migrants, covid orphans, children’s of home ministry employees, RAW, and central Police organizations will be taken. Like every coin has two sides, this decision by governments also has its own pros and cons for it. With this decision, many children will get a good education with proper requirements but many officials will question the system.
